Puget Sound Business Journal and The Seattle Foundation Named Olympic Cellars to Corporate Philantropists List

Olympic Cellars was honored in 2009 and 2010 when it was named to the List of Top 78 Corporate Philanthropists in an expanded Corporate Citizenship Program that recognizes companies of all sizes for their staunch support of philanthropic causes and organizations.

Olympic Cellars Cash Contributions 2002 - 2011: $68,807
Olympic Cellars In-Kind Wine Contributions 2002 - 2011: $31,230

In 2011 we contrbuted $9,153 in cash and $4,934 in-kind wine contributions. In 10 years, with your support of our business by purchasing wine, we were able to contribute $100,037. Thank you. Kathy Charlton

How It All Started

Like other businesses, Olympic Cellars receives many requests from non-profit organizations for product donations to be auctioned-off or given as door prizes at various fundraising events. We've always honored these requests, donating a few bottles of wine, with the feeling that we wanted to do more but were limited by the small size of our venture versus the large number of worthy causes that solicited our support. So, we decided that making a significant financial impact required focus, and developed our "Charity of Choice" Program.

Family planningIn 2004 we selected The Gynocare Program at Family Planning of Clallam County as our Charity of Choice. Proceeds from the sale of all Working Girl Wines and related products provide financial assistance for diagnostic and healthcare for medically underserved women in our area. Our first check was $88.

Current Network of Support: With the growth of the winery and expanded sales of Working Girl Wines our charitable support has also expanded. Our August Summer Concert Series is the cornerstone of our fundraising activities. We partner with local non-profits for each concert. Volunteers from the non-profit help us the night of the concert and Olympic Cellars donates all ticket sales. Organizations included the Boys & Girls Club, Soroptimists Girls Scholarship Fund, YMCA Summer Child Care Program, Homeward Bound, Healthy Families - Domestic Violence Support, Port Angeles Famers Market and the Olympic Land Trust.

Individual contributions have also been made to Volunteers in Medicine, the Trey Green Guild - Seattle Children's Hospital, Olympic Medical Center, Red Set Go - American Heart Month and Working Image.

2X Success: This program evolved from Olympic Cellars' support for the Gynocare Program. 2X Success was created to pair a non-profit organization's need for funding with the winery's need for dedicated volunteer staffing during harvest, bottling and special events, and to allow each organization to share in the other's success. For each volunteer hour provided, the non-profit organization can purchase one bottle of Olympic Cellars wine at "cost." The 501(c)(3) non-profit organization can then sell or auction this wine at a fundraising event.

The Washington State Liquor Control Board (WSLCB) worked with Olympic Cellars throughout the design of the program to ensure that it met all legal requirements.

One example of an ongoing partnership is with our local United States Coast Guard. Twice a year, a group of 8 help us bottle wine which is 2-3 days of long hours and hard work. The wine they earn for volunteering is sold at the PX and the profit goes to helping Coast Guard families in need. In the last 4 years our Coast Guard crew have touched over 168,000 bottles of wine that we've produced and earned over 64 cases to sell.

2X Successtm is intended to become a success model for all non-profits, especially in the current economic environment where grant recipients are required to demonstrate in-kind funding.
